reddit question of the day is: as ashe, should i first back t2 boots or not

and i replied:

generally speaking, t2 boots first back is not so strong anymore due to aspd nerf (used to be 35, now gives 25 which is a dagger less).

however, the conditions that make it good have not changed.

t2 boots first back increases the threat of an all in. for ashe, 45 mspd + frost makes it so the enemies will not have any chance to flee from you once you hit them. the threat of converting a single hit into a kill is what makes t2 boots strong, so you must verify if this scenario is true or replicable.

it is kind of a fancy way of asking if you are stronger in the 2v2, because preventing the enemy from fleeing does not matter if they can outfight you.

assuming an even lane with even matchups, t2 boots will almost always to lose to damage purchases, for example pickaxe + sword. it follows that you should refrain from buying t2 boots first back when even or behind, and consider it more when ahead.

for good measure, if youre so rich that even if the opponent spends all their gold on damage and they will still lose to you, then it is safe or maybe even favourable to buy t2 boots because it improves your overall stability (improves rotations, running away when things go wrong, weird goose chases etc etc)

different champs and different 2v2 bot will change the priority of t2 boots, for example adcs that prefer to run you down with auto attacks like vayne kog want t2 boots earlier. another example is the presence of mage supports (or god forbid, apc) for either team for example xerath lux which also increases the priority of t2 boots and mspd in general so that you can dodge skillshots/follow up on picks

tldr; in general dont first back t2 boots unless ahead
