Hello people it is time for some overdue Hero Arena updates!
This is a very big patch (again) cuz it has two years worth of patch in it. I wasn't working on it consistently (big surprise), and every time i wanted to ship the patch, i found either another bug or wanted to fit another rework in.
Finally, i stopped the cycle of being a coward and uploaded the patch.
NEW MAP
(hero taverns are on the top left, not in screenshot)
No more lanes and lane creeps.
No more Palace.
Added waygates.
Removed most of the towers.
More creep camps.
Moved stuff around.
So here's the thing. For as long as the Palace existed, the idea had always been that you should/could win by pushing lanes and whacking it directly. A few years into development and I found that hero kills were a better way to control the game flow, so it was worked into the current wincon. As laning phase wasn't particularly impactful in most of the games (due to being unprioritized in champion design/lackluster AI), the game proved to be always more appealing in the mid to late game.
To appeal to this desire for teamfights and action, I finally made the call to adopt a kill-only wincon for the first time in the game's history. (Of course, the concept is nothing new as i had already been playing BvO before making this game. But i had created this map with the intention of modelling it after dota, so I had my reservations. In any case, I was having bugs with using the hybrid wincon system.)
So! Now all you gotta do is get 40 kills to win! Farming has also never been easier; just smack anything mob that moves.
The waygates are more of a tentative addition to the game.
NEW ITEMS
The cool stuff. Items were generally being bought too much or not at all. I couldve just changed the numbers, but a few of them were broken by design (looking at you runed bracers and celerity scepter). after a while i realised i might as well just rework all the items.
Check out these new items:
Demonic Stone - a tank item which grants Strength and Immolation.
Twilight Shard - the new Blink item, which also grants agi and int.
Assassin Crown - Wind Walk item, which also grants str and agi.
Trinket of Protection - Click to gain 100 armour! also grants str and int.
Fluorescence - marksman item which grants 60 Agility but without armour bonuses.
...and many more!
But really, the main problem of the previous item set was that too many items were just comparing numbers instead of opting towards certain needs or playstyles. So hopefully these items offer better choices.
Hero Rename
honestly no legit rationale but i can't proceed to the hero rework sections without first mentioning this so...
Exodia renamed to Exalus
Florette renamed to Alicia
Nimbus renamed to Fuwakaze
Vulcan renamed to Flashfire
